Friday, February 26, 2021, has been declared a day for educators and administration across the District to work together to create a day of learning opportunities to better educate ourselves and seek to educate the community on the historical and current impact of racism and discrimination on our students, families, and communities, as well as understand our role in perpetuating such inequity. This initiative is intended as a day of affirmation to raise awareness and generate respectful conversation. SRS teachers will use the day as an opportunity to provide meaningful classroom activities and resources to students that create a positive and safe classroom environment.

This Diverse Classroom Library has been selected and vetted by a team of professional staff from WSSD. This hardworking team has created mini lessons based on the books as a springboard for their colleagues to use the books in their classrooms. The team is hoping to keep expanding this library of diverse books and to move to novels and chapter books as a next step.
